HEART RETURNS BEYOND BOUNDARIES

YUAN BOUNDLESS™ No. 3 | 元无界(三)— Heart Returns Beyond Boundaries | 心归无界 is the third completed artwork within Jingmin Ren’s ongoing YUAN BOUNDLESS™ | 元无界 artistic and research project.

The work is centred upon two calligraphic passages:

物来则应,物去不留。
Wù lái zé yìng, wù qù bù liú.
Respond fully to what arrives; release what departs.

身在万象,心归无界。
Shēn zài wàn xiàng, xīn guī wú jiè.
Living among infinite forms, the heart returns to the boundless source.

These words express a state of awareness that remains open to experience without becoming attached to it. What arrives is encountered fully; what departs is allowed to leave. Although the body exists among the countless forms and changes of the world, the heart can return to an inner state beyond division, limitation and fixed identity.

Across the softly coloured surface, black calligraphic forms move through different scales, directions and rhythms. The composition does not follow a single conventional reading order. Instead, the characters form a spatial field in which language is experienced through movement, breath, density and interval.

The red hand-stamped seals punctuate and stabilise the flowing structure. They act as points of cultural memory and concentrated energy, connecting the movement of the brush with seal culture, material and time.

The 3D fine-art inkjet-printed textured Xuan paper is an active part of the work. Its pink, green and pale atmospheric patterns evoke shifting landscapes, clouds and currents of energy. The calligraphy appears to move through these organic forms, creating a relationship between consciousness, nature and the cosmos.

Visible energy is expressed through the force and rhythm of the brush, the contrast between black ink and red seals, and the changing textures of the paper. Invisible energy is carried through breath, intention, awareness and the process of releasing attachment.

Heart Returns Beyond Boundaries was presented digitally on an iconic billboard in Times Square, New York City, in 2026, through Plogix Gallery. Within the intensity, light and movement of Times Square, the work offered a moment of inward reflection—inviting the heart to move beyond boundaries and return to its source.
