Jingmin Ren’s Spiritual Energy Art is a long-term artistic practice exploring the movement of energy across light, nature, living forms and imagined cosmic space.
Developed through painting and related contemporary forms, the practice brings together observation, imagination and spiritual perception—transforming skies, oceans, celestial environments and living beings into dynamic visual worlds.
THE ARTISTIC APPROACH | 艺术理念
Spiritual Energy Art is not a single series, but a broader artistic approach developed across Jingmin Ren’s practice.
Through colour, movement, light and layered forms, Ren explores the energies connecting humanity, nature and the wider cosmos. Skies, oceans, celestial spaces and living beings appear not as separate subjects, but as parts of an interconnected and continually transforming world.
Moving between observation and imagination, the works seek to make intangible forces perceptible—revealing energy as rhythm, atmosphere, movement and visual presence.
Energy moves through all forms of life.
ORIGINS IN LIGHT | 光的起源
Ren’s exploration of light and spiritual energy began to take clearer artistic form through the Genesis paintings, commissioned for a Catholic school in Sydney in 2012.
Engaging with themes of creation, illumination and the emergence of life, these works established light as more than a visual element. It became a generative force—a way of expressing transformation, connection and the movement from the unseen into visible form.
This early enquiry created an important foundation for Ren’s later explorations of sunrise, natural cycles, cosmic space and the energetic relationship between humanity and the wider world.

OBSERVING LIGHT | 观察光
Beginning in 2015, Ren undertook sustained observation and photography of Sydney’s sunrises for nearly three years, documenting changing light, cloud formations, colour and atmosphere across different mornings and seasons.
This daily practice transformed light from a symbolic presence into a directly observed natural phenomenon. The photographic archive became the foundation for the Sydney Morning and related Cloud Series oil paintings.
Through this sustained encounter with the sky, Ren’s exploration expanded toward natural cycles, time and the continually changing relationship between the visible world and human perception.

FLOW OF LIGHT | 光之流
The Flow of Light series extends Ren’s observation of natural light into a more expansive visual language of energy, movement and transformation.
Moving beyond the depiction of specific landscapes, the paintings bring together skies, oceans, celestial spaces and living forms within fluid, interconnected environments. Colour and layered movement create spaces in which the earthly and cosmic, visible and intangible, appear to flow into one another.
Within this series, light becomes both subject and structure—a force that moves through nature, connects forms of life and opens imagined spaces beyond ordinary perception.
Light becomes movement; movement becomes energy.
FROM LIGHT TO INNER TIME | 从光到内在时间
As Ren’s practice evolved, the movement of light expanded from the external world toward questions of memory, consciousness and the inner experience of time.
This development led to XINYIN LIUNIAN® | 心印流年, a continuing body of work bringing together Chinese calligraphy, seals, painting and mixed media. Marks and impressions become traces of lived time—connecting cultural memory, personal experience and spiritual reflection.
Rather than departing from Spiritual Energy Art, XINYIN LIUNIAN® extends its enquiry into another visual language: from flowing colour and natural forms to calligraphic gesture, material imprint and accumulated time.

EXHIBITIONS & PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

Ren’s Spiritual Energy Art has been presented through exhibitions, cultural programs and international digital displays, bringing paintings of light, energy and natural connection into public spaces and across different cultural contexts.
The Flow of Light series was presented at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Chatswood in 2021 and subsequently featured through Lunar New Year cultural programs at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre in 2023 and 2025. Selected works were also presented internationally through digital displays in Times Square, New York, and an outdoor presentation in London during Frieze London in 2024.
These presentations extended the works beyond the studio, creating opportunities for audiences across local and international settings to encounter their themes of light, transformation, spiritual energy and connection.
