Chinese ink and seal imprints on gold-flecked yellow xuan paper
Inspired by Zhuangzi’s Xiaoyao You (逍遥游)
“乘云气，御飞龙，而游乎四海之外”
Drawing upon the philosophical imagination of Zhuangzi, Xiaoyao You explores movement, freedom and the expansion of consciousness beyond fixed boundaries.
Calligraphic forms move across the luminous yellow field with shifting scale, rhythm and direction. The gold-flecked xuan paper creates an expansive visual space in which black calligraphic forms and red seal imprints appear to move, pause and respond across the surface.
The multiple xianzhang (闲章, leisure seals) are integral to the composition. Rather than functioning only as signatures or decorative accents, they enter into dialogue with the calligraphy—creating pauses, responses and additional layers of meaning.
Through this dialogue between calligraphy and seal imprints, meaning is not contained within a single character or phrase, but emerges through relationships between writing, imprint, space and movement.
