Without Asking East and West II | 无问西东(二)
2025 · Mixed media on canvas
From the ordinary rituals of eating and drinking to the quiet pulse of the soul, connection threads through us all.
Without Asking East and West II | 无问西东(二) brings the idea of East and West into the intimacy of everyday life.
A Chinese bowl with chopsticks appears above a Western-style cup of coffee. Noodles extend from the bowl and flow into the rising steam of the coffee, creating a continuous visual passage between two everyday cultural rituals.
Rather than presenting East and West as opposing categories, the work reflects how different traditions, habits and experiences can meet, flow into one another and coexist within contemporary life.
The seal “无问西东” (Without Asking East and West) extends this idea beyond geography. From the familiar acts of eating and drinking to memory, identity and inner experience, the work considers connection as something lived through everyday experience.

London, United Kingdom, 2025
