When the light of the Northern Dipper meets the glow of the Southern Cross, the stars align beneath a shared sky.
Without Asking East and West I | 无问西东（一） explores orientation, cultural boundaries and shared human experience through celestial imagery, Chinese calligraphy, seal impressions and symbolic forms.
Drawing upon the Northern Dipper and the Southern Cross, the work brings northern and southern celestial perspectives into dialogue. The compass evokes direction and orientation, while the movement of the horse suggests journey, energy and passage across geographical and cultural boundaries.
The work asks how we locate ourselves beyond fixed divisions of East and West. Beneath different constellations and across different cultures, human experience remains connected through nature, memory, movement and the inner life.
The seal “无问西东” (Without Asking East and West) reinforces this idea—not as an erasure of cultural difference, but as an invitation to encounter one another beyond geographical boundaries.
