We Are Free
We Are Free
Flow of Light Series
Oil on canvas · 90 × 120 cm · 2020
We Are Free is an oil painting from Jingmin Ren’s Flow of Light series. Created intuitively, the work explores freedom, aspiration and humanity’s connection with the wider universe through luminous colour, expansive space and the movement of flight.
Inspired by the albatross—one of the world’s largest seabirds and a remarkable master of soaring flight—the painting presents birds rising above the clouds and travelling beyond the apparent boundaries of time and space. Their effortless movement across the sky becomes a symbol of resilience, possibility and release from limitation.
Through expressive colour and imagined cosmic space, We Are Free invites viewers to look beyond the visible world and reconnect with their innermost aspirations. The work suggests that freedom begins within: in the imagination, in the courage to move beyond familiar boundaries and in the belief that new possibilities remain open.
The Flow of Light series has been presented in multiple exhibitions and public contexts in Sydney, including at the Chinese Cultural Centre in 2021, and at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre in 2023 and 2025. Selected works from the series were also featured in digital presentations in Times Square, New York, and London in 2024, presented by Plogix Gallery.
