The Secret of the Golden Flower is an oil painting from Jingmin Ren’s Flow of Light Series. The work draws inspiration from the ancient Chinese Daoist text The Secret of the Golden Flower, translated by Richard Wilhelm with commentary by Carl Jung, and its exploration of meditation, consciousness and inner transformation.
In the painting, two seahorses move through a luminous underwater world. Known for forming enduring bonds, they become symbols of connection, devotion and the shared journey through life. Above them, a golden flower unfolds in radiant light, suggesting a moment of spiritual awakening and illumination.
Glowing orbs move throughout the surrounding space as elements of energy, carrying a sense of freedom, joy and renewal. Through the meeting of marine imagery, light and symbolic form, the painting explores the relationship between love, spiritual energy and the awakening of inner consciousness.
The Secret of the Golden Flower was presented as part of Jingmin Ren’s Flow of Light Series at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, Sydney, in 2023.
