2017 · Oil on canvas · 45 × 56 cm

Sydney Morning Series
Oil Painting · Sunrise · Light · Changing Skies

Inspired by Creation, Celebrating Life

Sydney Morning No. 5 belongs to Jingmin Ren’s Sydney Morning Series, a body of oil paintings developed through nearly three years of sustained observation and photography of Sydney’s sunrises.

Awakening each day to changing light, luminous clouds and ever-shifting skies, Ren experienced the morning as a moment of renewal, spiritual energy and connection with creation. These observations became the foundation for a series of paintings exploring how light can carry emotion, transform perception and connect human experience with the rhythms of the natural world.

In Sydney Morning No. 5, colour, light and cloud move across the painted surface, capturing not a single fixed sunrise, but the serenity, joy and vitality of morning as it unfolds. Each brushstroke reflects the artist’s response to those fleeting moments when the sky appears to open into light.

The Sydney Morning Series received the International Outstanding Female Artist Award at the Third International Painting Festival of Hawaii in 2017. Jingmin Ren attended as an honoured guest at the International Convention Art Exhibition Centre in Hawaii, where the recognition was presented by Hawaii State House Representative Calvin K. Y. Say.

More than a record of the Sydney sky, the series is a meditation on light, time, creation and the quiet renewal offered by each new day.
