Sydney Morning No. 3
2017 · Oil on canvas · 45 × 56 cm
Sydney Morning Series
Oil Painting · Sunrise · Golden Light · City Silhouette
INSPIRED BY CREATION, CELEBRATING LIFE
Sydney Morning No. 3 belongs to Jingmin Ren’s Sydney Morning Series, a body of oil paintings developed through nearly three years of sustained observation and photography of Sydney’s sunrises.
During this period, Ren observed the sky as a continually changing field of light, colour and atmosphere. These daily encounters deepened her connection with creation and became the foundation for paintings exploring renewal, spiritual energy and the emotional experience of the natural world.
In Sydney Morning No. 3, layers of golden and amber light spread across the sky above the distant silhouette of Sydney. Soft, circular forms appear to shimmer through the atmosphere, transforming the familiar cityscape into a luminous and almost dreamlike vision.
The contrast between the dark horizon and the radiant sky evokes the moment when morning light begins to awaken the city. Rather than presenting sunrise as a fixed landscape, the painting conveys an experience of illumination—when light, atmosphere and perception briefly come together.
The Sydney Morning Series received the International Outstanding Female Artist Award at the Third International Painting Festival of Hawaii in 2017. Jingmin Ren attended as an honoured guest at the International Convention Art Exhibition Centre in Hawaii, where the recognition was presented by Hawaii State House Representative Calvin K. Y. Say.
More than a record of the Sydney sky, the series is a continuing meditation on light, time, creation and the renewal offered by each new day.
