Light After Tempest is a spiritual oil painting by Jingmin Ren, its title inspired by William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest. The work reflects the moment of release that follows turmoil—when turbulence begins to recede and light, clarity and hope gradually return.
Created through an intuitive process, the painting emerged from Ren’s experience of being surrounded by flowing energy. Vibrant colour, luminous forms and dreamlike movement unfold across the canvas, bringing together a poetic sense of calm with mystery, imagination and spiritual transformation.
Rather than depicting a literal storm, the painting explores an inner passage through uncertainty. Light appears as a guiding presence, suggesting resilience, renewal and the possibility of moving beyond difficulty into a more peaceful and expansive state.
On 3 June 2023, Light After Tempest was auctioned for A$10,000 during the grand final of Mrs Australia International, organised by Beauty N Brains at Hilton Sydney. The work was contributed as a charity donation, extending its meaning beyond the canvas through an act of community support and giving.
Through its combination of light, colour and intuitive movement, Light After Tempest offers a meditation on hope: the storm may transform us, but it does not extinguish the light that follows.
