Creation is an oil painting from Jingmin Ren’s Flow of Light series. Through luminous colour, flowing forms and an imagined cosmic environment, the work explores the origins of life and the interconnected relationship between humanity, nature and the universe.
Inspired by the philosophical progression from unity to multiplicity expressed in the Tao Te Ching, the painting considers how countless forms of life may emerge from a shared origin. At its centre, a jellyfish—one of Earth’s most ancient living forms—moves through a radiant space between ocean and cosmos.
The jellyfish becomes a symbol of continuity, transformation and the enduring energy of creation. Light radiating through the composition evokes the Sun as a sustaining source of life, connecting ancient existence with humanity’s continuing potential for growth and renewal.
Creation invites viewers to contemplate the mystery of existence and the invisible energy connecting all living forms. The work suggests that within a universe of continual change, life remains part of a larger and boundless flow.
The Flow of Light series has been presented in multiple exhibitions and public contexts in Sydney, including at the Chinese Cultural Centre in 2021, and at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre in 2023 and 2025. Selected works from the series were also featured in digital presentations in Times Square, New York, and London in 2024, presented by Plogix Gallery.
