Cloud Series No. 8
Cloud Series
Oil on canvas · 30 × 30 cm · 2019
Cloud Series No. 8 belongs to Jingmin Ren’s continuing exploration of Sydney’s changing skies. Created in 2019, the painting developed from her sustained observation and photography of Sydney’s sunrises, translating a fleeting atmospheric moment into colour, movement and light.
This daily practice became a source of renewed energy, joy and connection for Ren. The work reflects her emotional response to shifting clouds, emerging light and the distinctive atmosphere of each morning.
The Cloud Series developed from the same sustained observation of Sydney’s skies that informed Ren’s earlier Sydney Morning Series. In 2017, the Sydney Morning Series received the International Outstanding Female Artist Award at the Third International Painting Festival of Hawaii. Ren attended as an honoured guest and delivered an address on behalf of the award-winning artists. The award was presented by Hawaii State House Representative Calvin K. Y. Say.
