Breathe – Turtles is an oil painting from Jingmin Ren’s Flow of Light series. Through fluid colour, light and movement, the work explores resilience, continuity and the quiet connection between living beings and the natural world.
Sea turtles have existed for millions of years and carry rich symbolic associations across cultures, including longevity, endurance, wisdom and good fortune. In this painting, their movement through the water evokes a calm and continuous rhythm—a reminder to breathe, remain present and move with the changing currents of life.
Rather than presenting good fortune as a promise, Breathe – Turtles reflects an inner state of balance and renewal. The turtles become symbols of perseverance and peaceful strength, inviting viewers to reconnect with the sustaining energy of nature.
The Flow of Light series has been presented in multiple exhibitions and public contexts in Sydney, including at the Chinese Cultural Centre in 2021, and at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre in 2023 and 2025. Selected works from the series were also featured in digital presentations in Times Square, New York, and London in 2024, presented by Plogix Gallery.
