On 15 October 2026, Cultural Counsellor Le Liwen and Consul Cheng Hanjun from the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Sydney visited the studio of Australian interdisciplinary artist Jingmin Ren (JMREN®), followed by a visit to her large-scale public mural Solar Longitude – Time Orbit at Bondi Sea Wall.

The visit coincided with the 30th anniversary celebrations of Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi, which the delegation and artist subsequently attended together.

Contemporary Chinese Culture Through Interdisciplinary Art

Artist Jingmin Ren welcomes Chinese Cultural Counsellor Le Liwen and Consul Cheng Hanjun to her Sydney studio, introducing her interdisciplinary art practice and Solar Longitude – Time Orbit project, October 2026.

2026年10月,艺术家任静敏在悉尼工作室接待中国驻悉尼总领馆文化参赞乐利文、领事程汉君,介绍其跨学科艺术实践及《太阳黄经-时间轨道》艺术项目。

During the studio visit, Ren presented three interconnected areas of her artistic practice: SOLAR LONGITUDE 太阳黄经, XINYIN LIUNIAN® — Imprints of the Heart Over Time 心印流年, and YUAN BOUNDLESS™ 元无界.

Her work brings together Chinese calligraphy, traditional seal culture, Eastern philosophy, astronomical knowledge and contemporary artistic approaches, exploring relationships between time, light, place, cultural memory and the natural environment.

Cultural Counsellor Le Liwen expressed appreciation for Ren's integration of Chinese cultural elements, including the Twenty-Four Solar Terms, calligraphy and traditional seals, into contemporary art. He also acknowledged her engagement with Australian artists and communities, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange in fostering mutual understanding.

He particularly recognised the significance of creating a large-scale public mural in the internationally recognised coastal environment of Bondi Beach.

The discussion also reflected on Ren's international artistic activities since receiving an international art award in 2017, including presentations of her work in New York's Times Square and other international settings.

The Cultural Counsellor expressed the Consulate-General's willingness to support artistic projects, exhibitions and activities that contribute to Australia–China cultural exchange, while encouraging continued artistic innovation.

Solar Longitude – Time Orbit at Bondi Sea Wall

Following the studio visit, the delegation visited Ren's approximately 11-square-metre public mural, Solar Longitude – Time Orbit, completed in August 2026 at Bondi Sea Wall, Sydney.

Drawing upon the astronomical structure of solar longitude and the Chinese Twenty-Four Solar Terms, the artwork explores how the same astronomical coordinates are experienced through different seasonal conditions in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Through Chinese calligraphy, seal impressions, geometric structures and observations of Sydney's coastal environment, the work translates traditional temporal knowledge into a contemporary visual language within Australian public space.

Ren introduced the creative process and discussed how a globally shared astronomical framework can generate different cultural and seasonal readings according to geographical location.

Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi — 30th Anniversary

Following the mural visit, Cultural Counsellor Le Liwen, Consul Cheng Hanjun and Jingmin Ren attended the opening celebrations and guided art tour of Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi, marking the exhibition's 30th anniversary.

The occasion brought together public art, coastal landscape and intercultural dialogue, providing a wider context for considering the relationship between artistic expression, cultural heritage and contemporary Australian public space.

Media Coverage Across More Than 10 Chinese Online Platforms

The studio visit and Bondi public art engagement subsequently received coverage across more than 10 Chinese online media platforms, including the Artron Art Platform, which published an illustrated report on 20 October 2026.

The reports documented Ren's interdisciplinary practice, her public mural at Bondi Beach and the discussions surrounding contemporary Chinese cultural expression and Australia–China artistic exchange.

This media coverage contributes to the public documentation of Ren's ongoing artistic practice and its engagement with cultural knowledge, astronomical time, place and international dialogue.

Continuing Artistic and Cultural Dialogue

Through Solar Longitude, XINYIN LIUNIAN® and YUAN BOUNDLESS™, Jingmin Ren continues to explore how traditional cultural knowledge can be reinterpreted through contemporary artistic methods and shared across geographical and cultural boundaries.

The studio and public artwork visits provided an opportunity to discuss these artistic directions within the broader context of cultural exchange between Australia and China.
