The Hidden Wisdom in Today’s Seals

Within XINYIN LIUNIAN® | 心印流年, Chinese leisure seals (闲章) become a visual language through which I explore memory, cultural meaning and inner experience.

Drawn from my collection of approximately 1,000 Chinese leisure seals, these three selected seals bring together ideas of inner awareness, freedom and enduring blessing. Each carries its own history, phrase and philosophical resonance, while their juxtaposition opens a new conversation across time.

即心即佛,即佛即心

Mind Itself Is Buddha, Buddha Itself Is Mind

This phrase points inward, suggesting that understanding and awakening are not necessarily found outside ourselves, but through the cultivation and recognition of the mind.

大自在

Great Freedom

A concise yet expansive expression of freedom beyond attachment and constraint. Within the composition, it introduces a sense of openness — an inner state in which the mind is no longer confined by fixed boundaries.

永受嘉福

May Auspicious Blessings Endure

A traditional expression of enduring good fortune and blessing. Placed alongside the other two seals, it brings the philosophical and the everyday together: inner cultivation, freedom and the human wish for a good life.

Together, these three seal impressions form a quiet dialogue between inner awareness, freedom and blessing.

Rather than treating the seals simply as historical objects, XINYIN LIUNIAN® | 心印流年 brings their words, forms and cultural memories into contemporary composition, allowing traditional meanings to encounter present-day reflection and lived experience.

Each impression carries something from the past, while its meaning continues to unfold in the present.

Tiny seals, yet infinite meaning.
方寸之间,千年之思。

Through the selection and recomposition of traditional leisure seals, this composition becomes a dialogue — between past and present, cultural memory and lived experience, and between eras and souls.
