Le further remarked that Ren’s artistic practice is deeply rooted in Chinese cultural traditions while also responding sensitively to Australia’s natural landscapes and cultural environment. Her work promotes the “grounding” and “coexistence” of Chinese culture overseas, generating broad artistic resonance and cultural recognition within mainstream Western society. During the exchange, he also offered forward-looking suggestions on deepening China–Australia cultural exchange and expanding artistic dialogue.
As a distinguished Chinese artist based in Sydney, Jingmin Ren currently serves as Chair of the Asia-Pacific Artists Alliance, an expert advisor to the Multicultural Advisory Committee of the Waverley Council, and Executive Vice President of the Australian Academy of Painting. Her works have received numerous international awards. Through the integration of calligraphy, painting, and seal art, she constructs a unique visual language bridging Eastern ink traditions and Western colour systems.
Her Bondi Beach series, including “Standing Between Mountains and Seas,” showcased in this exhibition, employs strong contrasts of light and composition from Western oil painting while embodying deep cultural roots and lived experience between homeland and adopted home. Her brushwork reflects both a commitment to tradition and a thoughtful engagement with the present.
